0x on herrenlos: same-chain EVM swaps, one competing route
What 0x is, how it fits herrenlos's multi-provider quote model, and how you experience it — not a separate app, but one route quoted in parallel and ranked by what you'll actually receive, signed in your own wallet.
herrenlos quotes several route providers at once and points you at the best executable one for your trade (how swaps work here). 0x is one of those providers — the one that specializes in same-chain swaps within the EVM. This post is what 0x is, its role in the provider set, and how it behaves in the app.
What 0x is
0x is a DEX aggregation and settlement layer for EVM chains. When you want to trade one token for another on the same chain, 0x sources liquidity across the on-chain DEXes and can also pull in RFQ (request-for-quote) liquidity — prices quoted directly by professional market makers — then returns a single route and the calldata to settle it. Its approvals use Permit2, so a token approval can be scoped and signed rather than left standing.
In short: 0x is very good at the specific job of getting you the best on-chain price for a same-chain EVM swap, and packaging that into one transaction.
Its role in herrenlos's provider set
herrenlos runs a set of providers precisely so no single one has to cover everything. Chainflip handles native cross-chain legs like Bitcoin; LI.FI and Squid reach across chains. 0x's lane is same-chain EVM — swapping two tokens on Ethereum, or on Base, Arbitrum, and the other EVM chains herrenlos supports.
It's one competing line in the ranking, not the app and not an exclusive partner. When you enter a same-chain EVM pair, herrenlos asks 0x for a quote in parallel with the other providers and ranks everything by what you'd actually receive after the route's costs — never by who pays us. If 0x is the best executable route, it's highlighted; if another provider wins for that pair and size, that one is.
One nice consequence of 0x's RFQ liquidity: when you have a wallet connected (so there's a real taker for market makers to quote), a route can come back with zero-slippage RFQ pricing, and herrenlos flags that on the route so you can see when it's on offer.
Non-custodial, the whole way
You sign in your own wallet, in-page — herrenlos never holds your funds, and there's no account or KYC. 0x execution uses Permit2: you sign an EIP-712 approval and the swap transaction, both in your wallet. A failed same-chain swap simply reverts on-chain and costs only gas; nothing leaves your control.
Your keys never leave your wallet. Non-custodial isn't a mode you switch on — it's the only mode.
Honest about the limits
- Same-chain EVM only. 0x isn't a bridge — for moving between chains, other providers (Chainflip, LI.FI, Squid) cover the route. 0x competes where both sides are on the same EVM chain.
- Route availability varies by pair and size. 0x covers a lot of same-chain liquidity, but not every token at every size, and some chains sit outside its registry. The quote panel is the source of truth for any specific trade.
- A quote is a snapshot. Prices move; the amount shown is an estimate until the swap actually executes.
- It's one provider among several. When 0x isn't the best route — or can't route a pair — another provider often can, and herrenlos is honest when none can. A missing provider is a missing route, never an invented one.
Try it
Open the swap page, pick a same-chain EVM pair, and watch 0x ranked against the other providers — connect a wallet to see when an RFQ zero-slippage price comes back. For the bigger picture of how the routing works, the swaps post walks through it, and the roadmap tracks what's shipped and next across providers.
