ChangeNOW on herrenlos: deposit-address swaps as one competing route

What ChangeNOW is, why herrenlos includes a deposit-address exchange in its provider set, and how the flow works — quote in parallel, send to a generated address, and track the exchange to completion, with your keys never leaving your wallet.

herrenlos quotes several providers at once and ranks them by what you'd actually receive (how swaps work here). ChangeNOW is one of those providers — a deposit-address instant exchange that shows up as a line in the ranking, not a separate site you get redirected to. This post is what ChangeNOW is, why it earns a place in the provider set, and how it behaves in the app.

What ChangeNOW is

ChangeNOW is an instant exchange built on a deposit-address model. Instead of signing a swap in your wallet, you send the asset you're selling to an address ChangeNOW generates for that specific exchange, and ChangeNOW sends the bought asset to your destination address. There's no account and no in-page transaction to sign — the "transaction" is simply your own transfer to the deposit address.

That model is the whole reason it's useful here: because settlement is "send to an address, receive at an address," ChangeNOW can quote cross-chain pairs — including chains you sign externally, like Bitcoin — that an in-wallet swap can't reach.

Its role in herrenlos's provider set

herrenlos runs a set of providers so no single one has to be good at everything. ChangeNOW's role is to be another cross-chain option, and specifically one that isn't limited to chains you can sign in-page. For a move where a deposit-address flow is the natural fit — a native asset in, a different asset out — it may find a route or a price another provider doesn't.

The honest framing: ChangeNOW is not an exclusive partner and not the only way to swap. It's one integration whose job is to occasionally be the best executable route for your trade, and to sit quietly in the ranking when it isn't.

How you experience it

You enter a pair and an amount, and herrenlos asks ChangeNOW for a quote in parallel with the other providers, then ranks everything by what you'd actually receive — not by who pays us. If ChangeNOW is the best executable route, it's the one highlighted; otherwise a different provider wins.

When you open a ChangeNOW swap, the flow is:

  1. Open swap — herrenlos creates the exchange and shows you a deposit address (with a QR code and copy button) plus the exact amount to send.
  2. Send the deposit — you send that exact amount from a wallet you control, on the source chain. For EVM and Solana sources you can send in-page; for others you send from your own wallet.
  3. Track status — herrenlos polls the exchange and shows plain-language progress: waiting → confirming → exchanging → sending → finished. If the exchange can't complete, you'll see refunded or failed instead, and a compliance review shows as an in-progress hold rather than a failure.

Fund safety: refund address and memos

Because you're sending funds to an address rather than signing an atomic swap, a couple of details genuinely protect you:

  • Set a refund address. If an exchange can't complete, that's where funds are returned. herrenlos surfaces the field prominently for exactly this reason.
  • Include the memo / tag when one is required. Some chains (an XRP destination tag, for example) identify a deposit by an extra id. When one is needed, herrenlos shows it with its own copy button and a warning — send it exactly, or the funds may not be creditable.
  • Send the exact amount, from a wallet you control. Exchange-account withdrawals can arrive in the wrong amount and get stuck.

On custody: herrenlos never holds your funds or your keys — it shows you the address and tracks the exchange. Be clear-eyed, though, that a deposit-address exchange is a different trust model from an in-wallet swap or Chainflip's trustless protocol: for the duration of the swap, ChangeNOW is the party moving your funds between the two addresses.

Your keys never leave your wallet. herrenlos builds the plan and tracks it; it never takes custody.

Honest about the limits

  • Minimums apply. Below a pair's minimum, ChangeNOW returns no route — and herrenlos tells you it's a minimum, not a generic failure. Try a larger size.
  • Not every pair is supported. When ChangeNOW doesn't index a pair, it simply isn't offered; the quote panel is the source of truth.
  • ETA is an estimate. A deposit-address exchange settles in minutes, not instantly, and the arrival time shown is indicative.
  • A quote is a snapshot. The rate is floating and the figure you see is an estimate until the exchange runs.
  • It's one provider among several. When ChangeNOW can't serve a pair, another provider often can — and herrenlos is honest when none can. A missing provider is a missing route, never an invented one.

Try it

To see ChangeNOW in the mix, open the swap page, pick a cross-chain pair (try one with a native source like Bitcoin), and watch it ranked against the other providers. For its deposit-address sibling, see SimpleSwap on herrenlos; for the native cross-chain protocol, see Chainflip on herrenlos; and the roadmap tracks what's shipped and what's next.
