SimpleSwap on herrenlos: a deposit-address twin for competition and redundancy

What SimpleSwap is, how it mirrors ChangeNOW as a deposit-address exchange, and why herrenlos adds it as another competing quote — with execution rolling out behind a beta flag, so on a given deployment it may appear as a preview quote only.

herrenlos ranks several providers by what you'd actually receive (how swaps work here). SimpleSwap is one of the newer entries — a deposit-address instant exchange that works much like ChangeNOW. This post is what SimpleSwap is, why a second deposit-address provider is worth having, and — honestly — where it is in its rollout.

What SimpleSwap is

SimpleSwap is an instant exchange on the same deposit-address model as ChangeNOW: you send the asset you're selling to an address SimpleSwap generates for the exchange, and it sends the bought asset to your destination address. There's no account, no KYC step in the swap itself, and no in-page transaction to sign — the deposit is your own transfer.

Because it's a deposit-address exchange, SimpleSwap is a twin of ChangeNOW in how it fits herrenlos: cross-chain by nature, not limited to chains you can sign in-page, and quoted as one competing line rather than a separate app.

Its role: competition and redundancy

Adding a second deposit-address provider isn't about reaching new chains so much as not depending on one exchange. Two providers of the same shape means:

  • Competition on price. For a given pair and size, whichever returns the better executable output wins the ranking — sometimes that's SimpleSwap, sometimes ChangeNOW, sometimes neither.
  • Redundancy. If one is rate-limited, down, or simply doesn't index a pair, the other may still quote it.

SimpleSwap is not an exclusive partner, and it's not a vault-swap provider — it doesn't sign a transaction in your wallet. It's a deposit-address route that competes on the merits of each quote.

Non-custodial, and the same fund-safety rules

The custody story is identical to its sibling. herrenlos never holds your funds or your keys — it shows you the deposit address and tracks the exchange. And as with any deposit-address exchange, the same details protect you:

  • Set a refund address — where funds return if the exchange can't complete.
  • Include the memo / tag when one is required (an XRP destination tag, for example) — herrenlos surfaces it with a copy button and a warning; send it exactly.
  • Send the exact amount from a wallet you control.

As with ChangeNOW, be clear-eyed that for the duration of the swap the exchange is the party moving your funds between the two addresses — a different trust model than an in-wallet atomic swap.

Your keys never leave your wallet. herrenlos builds the plan and tracks it; it never takes custody.

Status, in plain language

When a SimpleSwap exchange runs, herrenlos shows the same plain-language progress it uses for the other deposit-address flow:

waiting → confirming → exchanging → sending → finished.

If it can't complete, you'll see refunded or failed instead. A compliance review (an AML hold) is treated as an in-progress state, not a failure — the swap stays live while it clears, rather than being wrongly marked dead.

Honest about where it is

SimpleSwap is the newest of these integrations, and the honest framing matters:

  • Execution is behind a beta flag. The full quote → open → deposit → track flow is built, but it's gated. On a given deployment SimpleSwap may appear as a preview quote only — a competing rate in the panel that isn't yet openable — until execution is switched on for that environment. The panel is the source of truth: if a route says preview, it's preview.
  • Minimums and unsupported pairs behave like a no-route. Below a pair's minimum, or for a pair SimpleSwap doesn't index, there's simply no route — surfaced as a specific reason, not a generic error.
  • A quote is a snapshot on a floating rate, and the ETA is an estimate.
  • It's one provider among several. When SimpleSwap can't serve a pair, another provider often can — and herrenlos is honest when none can.

Try it

Open the swap page, enter a cross-chain pair, and look for SimpleSwap in the ranking alongside the others.
